This month, while corporations throughout the United States talk about celebrating and honoring women during Women's History Month, I've got something on my mind that should be ancient history, but isn't: the gender wage gap.
Here's where things stand today:
According to recent research from the Pew Research Center, women earned 82% of what men earned in 2022, including both part-time and full-time jobs.
In 2000, women earned 80% of what men earned. We've made almost no progress narrowing the gender wage gap over the past 23 years!
And according to Census Bureau data from 2021, Hispanic or Latina women earned about $.58 and Black women earned about $.63 for every dollar white men earned in 2021.
Surely, we can do better as a country!
The good news? Even in an off-year for elections, we can still use our voices. This month, let's shine a light on the fact that the gender wage gap still exists, whether that's starting a conversation, asking for a raise or posting about this inexcusable wage gap!
And, as ever...you guessed it: we'll need more women voting than ever before to make sure we reach pay equity in America.
We can do this!
